Alison J. Thayer is a partner at Temkin Wielga & Hardt LLP, where she practices environmental law, including litigation, permitting, and transactional work. Alison’s litigation practice focuses on environmental matters, including hazardous waste, toxic tort, natural resource and Superfund litigation. She has extensive experience in defending cases involving the Clean Water Act, CERCLA, RCRA and related environmental claims arising under federal and state law.
In addition, Alison represents clients in a variety of other natural resource and environmental matters, including compliance and enforcement defense under various environmental statutes, oil and gas permitting, and air and water quality permitting.
Before joining the firm, Alison worked for the United States Department of Justice in its Honors Program. She also served as law clerk for the Honorable Nancy Rice of the Colorado Supreme Court.
Alison is a native Coloradoan. She received her undergraduate degree from Emory University, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She received her J.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1998, where she was a member and casenote/comment editor of the Colorado Law Review. Alison is a member of the Bar of the Courts of Colorado and the Ninth Circuit and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals, and has been admitted pro hac vice in the courts of several other states. Alison is active in the Denver legal community. She is a recent past president and longtime board member of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Lawyer’s Committee and is a member of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association Foundation Leadership Circle.
Alison was named a Colorado Super Lawyer in 2010.
Representative Matters
- Counsel for a public entity undertaking a voluntary cleanup of a former mining and milling site in Colorado.
- Counsel for a client in the oil and gas business relating to compliance with the Clean Air Act, including licensing under refinery and fuels manufacturer regulations.
- Represent client in RCRA site cleanup of dry cleaning chemicals.
- Represent clients in gas station cleanups undertaken under Colorado’s petroleum storage tank regulations.
- Defended a major mining company in a CERCLA case arising out of historic gold mining operations in California.
- Advised a banking client regarding environmental risks related to foreclosure on a contaminated property.
- Successfully assisted oil and gas trucking company in avoidance of threatened administrative action and penalties under the State air quality permitting and compliance regulations.
- Represented a major mining company involved in a multi-year cooperative cleanup with several California state agencies relating to a historic mining site.
